The Moose Jaw Miller Express went winless over the weekend, dropping games to the Swift Current 57s and the Medicine Hat Mavericks.
On Friday night at Ross Wells Park, the Miller Express lost 15–10 in a high-scoring affair against Swift Current.
The 57s jumped out to a 5–0 lead after two and a half innings. Moose Jaw got on the board in the bottom of the third when Austin Gurney hit a single to drive in Thomas Soto and Ben Waliczek.
Swift Current extended its lead to 12–2 after the top of the sixth. In the bottom half of the inning, Evan Deringer hit a single to score Jackson Yeager, and Adrian Vivo followed with a single to bring home Tanner DeGrazia, making it 12–4.
The 57s added three more runs in the top of the seventh before Moose Jaw attempted a late comeback with a run in the eighth and five runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Deringer hit a solo home run in the eighth. In the ninth, Jackson Martin hit a single to score Abe Ahlberg. Eduardo Saenz followed with a groundout to score Martin. DeGrazia singled to bring in Gurney, Vivo was hit by a pitch to score Yeager, and Ahlberg walked with the bases loaded to score DeGrazia.
On Saturday, the Miller Express were scheduled to face the Mavericks in Medicine Hat, but the game was rained out and postponed to July 10.
The rain cleared by Sunday for the second of two games between the clubs, with Medicine Hat coming away with a 7–1 win. Moose Jaw’s lone run came in the top of the fourth when Martin drew a walk to bring in Saenz.
The Miller Express are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Sylvan Lake to take on the Gulls.
