Portage la Prairie RCMP say a tip led them to stolen property and three arrests earlier this month.
A report of a stolen e-bike came in on the morning of June 16 from a home on 20th Street Southwest. Officers searched the area but didn’t find the bike at the time.
The next day, police received a tip and went to a home on Countess Avenue. When they arrived, they say three men were in a garage—one of them dismantling the stolen e-bike and attaching the parts to another bike.
All three men, aged 22, 39, and 42, were arrested on the spot for possession of stolen property.
Further investigation uncovered a laptop that had been stolen from a business on 9th Street Southeast during a break-in on May 26.
Forty-two-year-old Merle Cyr of Portage la Prairie is facing several charges, including failing to comply with a release order, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
Twenty-two-year-old Reil Warner of Portage la Prairie and 39-year-old Cameron Delaronde of Long Plain First Nation have also been charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000.
All three were released and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
