The warning has ended.

A Tornado Warning is in effect for the R.M. of Morris and the communities of Watrous, Young, Zelma, Lanigan and Nokomis areas as a severe thunderstorm continues to track through the area.

Environment Canada meteorologists issued the warning at 6:15 PM CST, with reports suggesting the storm may be producing a tornado.

In addition to the potential for a tornado, the storm is expected to bring damaging winds, large hail, and intense rainfall.

At the time of the warning, the storm was located west of Watrous, moving southeast at a speed of 20 km/h.

The severe weather has been accompanied by 90 km/h wind gusts and quarter-sized hail.

Authorities are urging residents to take immediate action to protect themselves, as this is considered a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.

If threatening weather is approaching, seek shelter immediately. Residents should be on high alert for signs of a tornado, such as a roaring sound, swirling debris near the ground, or a visible funnel cloud.

Move indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows. Ideal locations include basements, bathrooms, stairwells, or interior closets.

Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers, and any other temporary or free-standing structures, and move to a strong building if possible.

In the absence of proper shelter, lie in a low spot and protect your head from flying

Lightning is another danger associated with these storms, with numerous incidents of lightning-related injuries and fatalities occurring each year. The public is reminded: when thunder roars, go indoors.

Tornado warnings are issued when thunderstorms are either occurring or imminent and are likely to produce a tornado. Stay tuned to local weather updates and take the necessary precautions to ensure your safety.
