Grade 8 student Ellise Dyrland of Kyle Composite School had a standout performance at this year’s Heritage Fair competitions, earning second place overall at the provincial level.

Dyrland’s project, titled “Your Community Builder Co-Op,” showcased her deep interest in the role of co-operatives in local communities. After placing second at her school’s Heritage Fair, she advanced to the Regional Heritage Fair held at the Western Development Museum in Moose Jaw, where she finished sixth. That placement qualified her to compete at the Provincial Heritage Fair at Government House in Regina.

At the provincial event, Dyrland’s project impressed the judges and earned her second place overall. She was also honoured with the Heritage Saskatchewan Award and received a bursary presented by Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre.

“I really enjoyed sharing my knowledge and connecting with people, many of whom had ties to co-ops,” Dyrland said. She noted her favourite moment was meeting Lt. Governor McIntyre and presenting her project in person.

Reflecting on her Heritage Fair journey, Dyrland said, “It was an awesome experience, and I’m really glad I was able to attend. I learned a lot, and this is something that I am very grateful to have experienced.”

The school community congratulated Ellise on her achievement.
