Westpark School’s Class of 2025 gathered Tuesday for a heartfelt send-off, celebrating years of shared memories, hard work, and friendships.

Among the proud graduates was valedictorian Katherine Knox, who delivered an emotional speech to classmates, staff, and families at the ceremony.

“It was really good. It actually went really smoothly,” notes Knox. “It wasn't very long. Only about an hour and a half, but everyone was happy.”

Knox says she teared up while giving her address but managed to power through.

A moment to remember

Receiving her diploma in front of family and friends was a moment she won’t forget.

“It was nerve racking, but it was really gratifying once my tassel got flipped and we got to throw our caps,” adds Knox.

By the next morning, the reality of graduation had started to settle in.

“This morning I woke up and I was like, 'Wow, I graduated',” remarks Knox.

What’s next for the valedictorian

Knox plans to continue working at Canadian Tire this summer before heading to the University of Manitoba’s Asper School of Business this fall to pursue a degree in marketing.

She also hopes to keep in touch with many of the classmates she’s grown up with.

“I really want to maintain the connections,” she continues.

Awards and a final farewell

Knox was also recognized with a few awards during the event, including the Upside-Down Award.

Sixteen students made up this year’s graduating class. Sophia Smoke was the Governor General Award recipient.

In addition to the ceremony, several grads got together afterward for one final night of laughs and memories.

“It was all nice to be in our casual clothes and debriefing the evening and that kind of stuff,” says Knox.

She leaves her classmates with a simple but sincere message:

“Just thank you for everything. It's been a really fun ride to go on,” remarks Knox.
