Cheryl “Denise” McLaughlin

August 9, 1964- June 3, 2025

It is with heavy hearts we note the passing of our dear wife, mom, grandma, Cheryl “Denise” McLaughlin. Denise is predeceased by her mom and dad, David and Edna Hiebert, son Clinton McLaughlin, siblings Barb, Joan, Jim and Larry, mother and father in law Doug and Sue McLaughlin, and brother in law Myles “Smokey” Nearing. Left to cherish the memories of the life Denise had are her husband Kelly, daughter Crystal (Obiora), grandchildren Seth (Charlize), Wyatt (Brianna), Jewels and Logan, extended “grandchildren “ Dale and Danny. Also left to mourn her are Denise’s remaining siblings, nieces, nephews, brothers/sisters in laws, best friend Debbie and other friends/colleagues.

Denise was born in Carman, Manitoba on August 9th, 1964. She was the youngest of 7 surviving children. She met Kelly (Kelvin McLaughlin) and was married June 28th, 1983. Together they had two children, Clint and Crystal. They moved to High Bluff and lived there until 2003. Enjoying many nights outside in the peaceful countryside. In 2003 they moved to Portage La Prairie and shortly after, unfortunately Clint passed away. This was a very hard time, something no parent should go through. Through the years Denise and Kelly welcomed four beautiful grandchildren into their lives, that they loved with all their hearts. Denise was the best of grandma’s between sewing, cooking or baking, everything Denise did was for the love of her family.

Denise spent the most part of her work life at Pure Fishing Canada (Berkley’s), and the later half at Portage Transport. She worked hard, was strong and dedicated. Denise developed many relationships both personally and professionally. She was a force to be reckoned with, and when she put her mind to it, she achieved it. All her skills were put to good use and she truly made an impact on both the companies. All who had a chance to work with Denise, and get to know the strong, wonderful person she was, showing up even in the last months she had on Earth, surely the sorrow is felt throughout.

Denise fought hard to stay here with her loved ones. One battle after another, each one depleting her. After her final and brief battle with cancer, may she find peace and be at rest in being reunited with her son Clint after all this time. Taken too soon. Always loved and never forgotten.

Denise’s wishes are for the family to hold a private funeral.

Any donations can be made in her honour to Cancer Care Manitoba.
