After two weeks of public voting, Rosetown’s Kinsmen Park Accessible Playground Expansion has been named the final winner of a $25,000 grant through Sandbox Mutual’s ‘Communities at Play’ program.

The exciting news means that the Kin Club of Rosetown can now complete phase two of their all-inclusive playground project. Four projects were selected prior by Sandbox Mutual, leaving the final spot up to a public vote, and Rosetown came out on top to claim the final $25,000 prize.

It wouldn't have been possible without community support, and lead member of the Rosetown Kinsmen Clark Gawryluik shared some kind words for everyone who helped out.

From us here at WestCentralOnline, to West Central residents who cast a vote: Gawryluik says thank you.

"Want to thank everybody (that would have voted for us) ... Appreciate the support, and the money is going towards a worthwhile project in the community."

Phase one of the project resulted in the new fully accessible playground equipment currently available at the park. Phase two is about providing amenities like a shade shelter, and more equipment to play with, as Gawryluik gave a timetable on when that work will be complete.

"Hopefully this summer we will have our shade structure, and freestanding accessible merry-go-round play piece, that will be going in as well. Hopefully by the fall everything is done and complete."

Sandbox Mutual is in their third consecutive year of the contest. Joining Rosetown in taking home the grant money was the St. Luke Playground Project in Calgary, La Salle School Parent Advisory Council’s Accessible Playground in La Salle, Manitoba, an Inclusive Natural Playground at Prairie Sky School in Regina, and the St. Anne School Wheelchair Accessible Playground Initiative out of Saskatoon.

The Kinsmen Park is sandwiched between Sixth Avenue E and Third Avenue E in Rosetown.
