Students at Oakville School (OVS) wrapped up the school year with a fun-filled day that brought everyone together. The school put a new spin on its traditional year-end field day, rebranding it as Fun Fest. On Tuesday morning, Kindergarten to Grade 4 enjoyed a variety of exciting activities that challenged their skills, sparked laughter, and kept smiles on everyone’s faces.
The day featured 17 different activities, each designed with three levels of difficulty to ensure students of all ages could join in the fun. Some of the games included Soccer Shoot, Chicken Hole-in-One, Golf Putt, Marble Grab, Tunnel Scooter Ride, Badminton Balloon Bop, and Moon Ball Bounce.

Grade 2 teacher Coralee Thiessen described the event as a welcome reward for months of hard work.
“It was a full morning of fun activities for K-4 students to get some exercise and have fun after a hard year of work. The kids had a great time, and it was a good end to the school year,” Thiessen explains.
While the day was all about fun, a lot of effort went on behind the scenes to make it happen. Grade 1 teacher Tricia Sawchuk shared that it was a true team effort.
“Our K-4 committee planned it. We got together to brainstorm what kind of activities we would have,” Sawchuk adds. “Our gym teacher, Mr. Scott, was great at getting us all the equipment that we needed and getting everything set up. It's a big team effort.”

As students prepare to close their books for the summer, teachers and staff are reflecting on what’s been a busy and rewarding school year.
“I think they've had a wonderful last week of school. We've kept them busy with field trips and activities. We're just powering through the last couple of days, but they're going out on a high. It's been lots of fun,” she continues.
For many teachers, the end of the school year is a bittersweet time.
“It's been a great year. These kids are always fantastic, and they become our babies. When they leave at the end of the year, it's a little sad to pass them off to the next teacher, but it's exciting to see the new group when they come in, too.”
OVS Principal Mark Sokolowski says the success of Fun Fest stems from the deep sense of community that runs throughout the school.
“It was perfect. We had great weather and activities that were planned by the staff. We had members of our parent council and parent volunteers help out, and the kids had tons of fun, which is what it's all about. I don't think we could have asked for a better day.”
