The Prairie Playhouse Early Learning Centre in Sedley is set to open next week with a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 30th and the official opening day on July 2nd. The activity in Sedley doesn’t stop there though, as the major fundraising event for the daycare centre takes place later in July; the second annual Sedley Car Show & Summer Bash.

Last year, 30 plus vendors, 90 cars and over 400 people converged for the first annual Sedley Car Show, and it was a massive success fundraising for the Prairie Playhouse ELC as they raised $10,000. They’re looking to replicate that success this year with the second annual event on Saturday, July 12th. Kelsey Morrison, board chair for the Prairie Playhouse ELC, talks about all the fun to be had this July.

“So, this is our second year organizing the event. It's our second annual Sedley Car Show & Summer Bash. It's going to be on July 12th so Saturday. We'll be bringing out cars again this year. We'll be running a trade show in the Sedley Gym Hall. There's going to be food, beer gardens, live music, and the event will go all the way into the evening, where we'll have a catered supper, food truck and then a cabaret and live music (with the Igniters) in the evening.”

The car show and summer bash is free for those wanting to attend, however if you’re looking to show off your ride, the cost for vehicle registration is $15. They are putting a call out to vendors who’d like to attend to register before July 6th by emailing childcareboard@gmail.com cost is $30 for a table and $60 for a double.

With an event of this size, much like many others in the southeast, they rely on the help of volunteers to make it all possible. Morrison was super grateful for the volunteering help they received last year and hopes that it can continue to grow this year.

“It's a large event. There's the car show; there's the trade show. We have beer gardens running throughout the day into the evening. There's a bouncy castle, face painting the the various kind of registration desks. So, there's a lot of people needed to run this large of an event, so we have asked folks in the community to come out, take a shift, whether that be at the canteen, the bar, working with the kids at the bouncy castles. More hands make lighter work, and this is a community event. Of course it is a fundraiser, but we're hoping to have kind of the whole community out and celebrating with us.”
