The Moose Jaw Miller Express’s Alberta road swing has not been kind, as they dropped their fourth straight game with a 6-3 loss to the Sylvan Lake Gulls on Wednesday night.
Sylvan Lake opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Moose Jaw cut the lead in half in the top of the seventh inning when Jackson Yeager singled to score Austin Gurney.
The Gulls responded in the bottom of the seventh with four runs to take a 6-1 lead.
Moose Jaw’s comeback in the final two innings fell just short. Ben Waliczek scored on a Gurney sacrifice fly to centre field in the eighth, and Tanner DeGrazia hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to make it 6-3.
The Miller Express remain in fourth place in the East Division standings with a 10-12 record. They still sit a game and a half behind the Regina Red Sox for third, and nine games back of the first-place Saskatoon Berries.
Moose Jaw will look to end the losing streak with a doubleheader in Fort McMurray on Thursday. They take on the Energy City Cactus Rats from Spruce Grove at 4:05 p.m., followed by the Fort McMurray Giants at 7:05 p.m.
