Chanse Vigen, who now calls Calgary home, lit up the track Thursday night at the prestigious Ponoka Stampede.
Vigen and his wagon crossed the finish line in a time of 1.11.75, breaking Luke Tournier's 2011 time of 1.12.19.
High River's Jason Glass finished in 13th, Dayton Sutherland from DeWinton came in 24th while Blackie's Jordie Fike came in 36th out of 36th after suffering a 10 second penalty for his wagon missing a barrel.
Sutherland also took 2 seconds in penalties for his wagon failing to stop at the bottom barrel and for having the wagon ahead of a barrel. He would've finished in 2nd place without the penalties.
All 36 drivers and wagons get going again tonight as the six-day event continues.
The top 8 wagons in the aggregate after Sunday's races go into the semi-final round on Monday in heats 8 and 9.
Then the top 4 times from the semi-final heats move on to the $75,000 Tommy Dorchester Championship Final Heat on Canada Day, Tuesday, July 1.
