On June 7, 2025, Grande Prairie RCMP members conducted a traffic stop on a Jeep Cherokee whose registered owner was wanted on outstanding warrants for failure to comply with court orders. The driver was identified and confirmed to be on warrants, for which he was arrested. A search of the vehicle incidental to arrest resulted in the seizure of:

  • A loaded handgun smuggled from Texas, USA;
  • 66.7 grams of meth;
  • 28 grams of cocaine;
  • 19 oxy pills;
  • Drug paraphernalia associated to trafficking; and
  • Unstamped tobacco.

As a result of the investigation, Kyle Louis Bird (33), a resident of Grande Prairie, was charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3);
  • Failure to comply with order (x2);
  • Firearm-related offences (x4);
  • Possession of unstamped tobacco; and
  • Possession of proceeds of crime.

Bird was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie on Dec. 10, 2025.
