A portion of downtown Airdrie's Main Street will shut down on Canada Day morning as thousands line the route for the city’s biggest parade of the year — part of a full-day celebration that spans breakfast, multicultural showcases and late-night fireworks.

According to a June 27 news release from the City of Airdrie, Main Street between 1 Avenue NW and Allen Street SE will be closed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1 for the annual Canada Day Parade.

Access to the Alberta Health Services Urgent Care Centre at 604 Main Street SE will be maintained through alternate routes. Northbound drivers can reach the facility via Albert Street NE and 2 Avenue NE, or from Veterans Boulevard through Centre Avenue and Allen Street. From the south, vehicles can detour using Yankee Valley Boulevard to 8 Street, then head north to 1 Avenue NE, west to 1 Street NW and east along 2 Avenue NE to Allen Street. The city said parking at the urgent care site will be accessible through the alley at the rear of the building.

A separate closure of the same Main Street segment will take place Saturday, June 28, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the Airdrie Pride Festival Solidarity Walk.

Canada Day festivities begin at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast outside City Hall hosted by the Kin Club of Airdrie.

Plates will be available to the first 1,500 guests. The parade follows at 10 a.m., featuring up to 100 floats and an expected crowd of more than 30,000, according to the Airdrie Parades organization.

Downtown businesses will host special promotions and community events throughout the day, with an interactive map available online and through QR codes posted along the parade route.

At Nose Creek Regional Park, Airdrie CultureFest will run from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., marking the city’s first official multicultural festival. Organized by the Airdrie CultureFest Committee, the event will include live performances, food trucks, beer gardens and cultural exhibits representing five continents.

The Airdrie Pro Rodeo will continue daily events at the Airdrie Rodeo Grounds through July 1, wrapping up its five-day run on Canada Day.

The city will close out the celebrations with a 20-minute fireworks display at Chinook Winds Regional Park starting at 10:45 p.m. Parking is limited at the site, with additional lots open at W.H. Croxford High School and Rocky View Schools. Designated viewing spots include Windsong School, Coopers Crossing School, Living Springs Church and Daybreak Church.
