With a string of sunny days in the forecast and a full slate of community celebrations planned, Airdrie’s Canada Day is shaping up to be ideal for residents and visitors alike.

Environment Canada lifted a thunderstorm watch that had been in place for parts of southern Alberta Saturday afternoon, clearing the skies and easing concerns about weekend weather disruptions.

Now, the forecast shows uninterrupted sunshine through July 1, just in time for Airdrie’s largest annual celebration.

On Sunday, June 29, the city will see sunny skies and a high of 23 C with a UV index of 7, or high. Overnight, conditions will remain clear with a low of 6.

Monday brings more of the same, with a daytime high of 24 C and another clear evening, dropping to 8 C overnight.

Canada Day on Tuesday, July 1, is forecast to be sunny with a high of 26 C — ideal conditions for the parade, festivals, and evening fireworks. The night will stay clear with a low of 10.

Wednesday, July 2, will also bring sunshine and a high of 25 C before a 60 per cent chance of showers moves in that evening. The overnight low will be 11.

Main Street closure for Canada Day Parade

A portion of Main Street between 1 Ave NW and Allen St. SE will be closed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, to accommodate the Canada Day Parade.

Alberta Health Services’ Urgent Care Centre at 604 Main St. SE will remain open during the closure, with alternate access routes available:

From the north:

  • Albert St. NE and 2 Ave NE

  • Allen St. and Centre Ave E to Albert St. NE

  • Veterans Blvd, south on Main St. to 2 Ave NE and Allen St.

From the south:

  • Yankee Valley Blvd to 8 St., north on 8 St. to 1 Ave NE, west on 1 Ave to 1 St. NW, north on 1 St. NW to 2 Ave NW, then east on 2 Ave NE to Allen St.

These alternate routes allow access to the Urgent Care facility’s parking lot via the alley behind the building.

The City encourages active transportation — walking, biking, or using e-scooters — to reduce parking demand. Parking is limited at event locations. Carpooling or drop-offs are also recommended.

E-scooters are available for riders aged 16 and older and must be used in accordance with local bylaws. Riders are urged to wear helmets and park respectfully.
