The weather played dodge-me with this weekend's Humboldt Summer Sizzler, but many of the events were unaffected by the rainfall and cloud turmoil, particularly on Saturday.

There was plenty of sunshine for the hungry Humboldt denizens who gathered at Civic Park in the early morning to partake in the community breakfast hosted by the Humboldt Community Soup Kitchen.

Friends, family, and soon to be patrons headed to Main Street for a special Summer Sizzler event, the grand opening of Celine’s Kitchen and Bar. The eagerly anticipated restaurant opened its doors early in the morning, and proprietor Celine Flores led mayor Rob Muench and others on a tour of the just completed decorations in the establishment.

It feels surreal at this moment. It has been a dream since I was in elementary school, so it has been three decades to make this happen,” said Celine, just following the ribbon cutting. “Twelve or thirteen years ago, when I came to Canada, I was just a service crew from a restaurant. I couldn't believe it's happening now that I am a business owner, and especially here in Humboldt, where I truly belong. It feels like home. It feels unreal. I'm so blessed to be here, the community is so supportive of me, and I'm so grateful for that.”

The restaurant serves a delicious combination of pan-Asian and Canadian food, expertly prepared by Celine and her highly trained chefs.

Shortly after, the parade presented one of the longest and most colourful lineups of floats, antiques, marchers and machines that’s taken to the route in recent years.

Boldt Con entertained visitors at Jubilee Hall (see the article dedicated to Boldt Con) and the midway spun into the evening throughout the weekend with exciting rides and fanciful food offerings.

Of course, on Saturday and Sunday, the big build-up was to the Living Skies Music Festival, this year with two nights of rock and country stars playing into the night.
