Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a heat warning for areas of Foothills County, Vulcan County, and Siksika Nation.
Daytime high temperatures between 29°C and 35°C combined with overnight lows near 14°C are expected to begin today (June 30).
The affected areas include:
Foothills Co. near Blackie
Siksika Res. 146
Vulcan Co. near Arrowwood Herronton and Queenstown
Vulcan Co. near Vulcan and Ensign
Vulcan Co. near Carmangay and Champion
Vulcan Co. near Lomond Travers and Little Bow Reservoirs
Vulcan Co. near Milo
The hottest weather is expected mid-week, with temperatures expected to cool off by Friday.
During a heat wave, residents and visitors of the affected areas are advised to take frequent breaks from the heat in cooled indoor spaces, stay hydrated, consider rescheduling outdoor activities to later in the day, and not leave children or pets inside vehicles.
Older adults, children, and individuals with pre-existing conditions could experience earlier or more severe effects from heat.
Symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion include high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness.
