Police said the vehicle left the roadway toward the grassy median and struck a support post for an overhead directional sign. The car caught fire. The 16-year-old male driver — the only occupant — was declared deceased at the scene.

Police said neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be factors. Excessive speed is being investigated as a possible factor.

The second crash happened at approximately 6:17 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, on Stoney Trail S.W., south of the Bow Trail interchange.

Police said a 25-year-old man was driving a 2001 Toyota 4Runner southbound when the vehicle crossed the grassy median and entered the northbound lanes.

Police said the Toyota’s driver was ejected and struck a large overhead directional sign. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge suffered serious, life-threatening injuries.

A 22-year-old male passenger in the Dodge had minor injuries. Both were transported to the hospital.

Police said neither alcohol or drugs are believed to be factors. Excessive speed is being investigated as a possible factor.
