School's out for summer, but speed limits have only changed in some areas.
Students at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools had their last day on June 25, with Foothills School Division students finishing on June 27.
In Okotoks, school zones are no longer in effect now that the school year has ended. The signs apply only on school days, typically from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and only during the school year. Playground zones remain in effect, as always.
That’s not the case in High River.
The Town of High River's school zones were changed several years ago to be harmonized with its playground zones, with both running year-round.
Reduced speed limits in school and playground zones are in effect 24/7.
The change was made to simplify things for drivers and ensure consistent safety around areas where children may be present at any time of year.
Whether school is in or out, it’s still worth keeping an eye on the signs and an extra foot on the brake.
