Canada Day celebrations began in Steinbach at the Mennonite Heritage Village from 9 am – 5 pm and continue tonight at the Soccer Park with fireworks at 10:45 pm.

The Mennonite Heritage Village started the day at 9 am with waffles and white sauce. The day continued with activities and demonstrations.

Visitor experience administrator Jo-anne Friesen says that they experienced a huge turnout this year after being rained out the previous year.

“They're so excited just to be on the grounds and as visitor experience, we want to make sure that their experience is great and I think so far it's going amazing.”

The MHV has tons of activities such as face painting, wagon rides, and blacksmith demonstrations, but a fan favourite was the candy booth.

“Our candy booth is always a huge hit. We have old-fashioned candy of all kinds and the lineups actually stay all day long here.”

Friesen says that the community support is amazing, and in order to enhance everyone's experience, they try to add an old-timey flavor to the candy.

The candy booth was one of the most visited features at MHV Canada Day, bringing people back for seconds.

“Usually, they'll stop on the way in, and they'll stop on the way out, so we're in a good location right when you come out the main doors to the grounds.”
