Drivers in Winnipeg are being advised to prepare for significant traffic delays along Abinojii Mikanah as a major construction project begins this summer.

Starting July 2, both eastbound and westbound lanes of Abinojii Mikanah will experience partial closures between Dakota Street and River Road. The project is expected to last until October 24, 2025.

According to the City of Winnipeg, the westbound curb lane, westbound middle lane, and eastbound curb lane will all be closed to allow for street construction and maintenance work.

One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction, but heavy congestion is anticipated during peak hours.

Motorists are encouraged to plan alternate routes or allow for extra travel time through the area. Transit users should also check for possible route adjustments or delays.

The city is urging patience from drivers and residents, emphasizing that the work is essential to maintaining roadway safety and improving long-term infrastructure.
