The opportunity to get visit one of Saskatchewan's countless lakes and waterbodies to do some recreational fishing free of charge is just around the corner.

July 12 and 13 is Free Fishing Weekend here in Saskatchewan, and anglers can partake in one of the province's most beloved pastimes without a license on all public waters open to sport fishing.

While the fishing is free, it isn't a free for all. The event doesn't apply within national parks, a valid license is required to take fish out of the province, and anglers must abide by all fishing regulations, including catch limits.

Free Fishing Weekend began in 1989 to highlight the angling opportunities that can be found in Saskatchewan. Due to the event's popularity, a winter edition of the free fishing weekend was added in 2015.
