Airdrie's rodeo grounds will be showcased in an upcoming movie called Cowboy.
Filming took place on Monday, June 30, and Airdronians were invited to be extras within the movie watching the rodeo.
According to the Airdrie Pro Rodeo social media post, the movie is about a washed-up rodeo cowboy and a young hopeful who embark on a journey through the American West. Navigating the highs and lows of the rodeo circuit, personal demons, and the harsh realities of their chosen lifestyle.
Stars of the show include,
- Ben Foster (Hell or High Water)
- Rudy Pankow (Outer Banks)
- Gabriel Basso (The Night Agent)
- PBR World Champion JB Mauney.
Filming for the movie also took place at the Ponoka Stampede.
According to ACTRA Alberta, filming for the movie in Alberta started on June 21 and concluded on July 2.
Leanne Grenier, the secretary for the Airdrie Pro Rodeo, talked about how excited they were to be included in the movie.
"We're one of five stops up here in Canada for the show. The fact that we were set up and they are able to use the grounds is pretty awesome."
Although filming has just begun, a release date or trailer has yet to be announced or revealed.
"It was quite an experience for us to see on Monday and be a part of that."
