The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) says it is working with communities and residents impacted by the early and challenging start to the 2025 wildfire season, helping them begin the recovery and rebuilding process.

The SPSA’s Recovery Task Team is coordinating the province’s efforts to assess community needs and provide support following wildfire damage. The team is made up of representatives from the SPSA as well as other provincial ministries, including Environment, Social Services, and Government Relations. Other ministries may be involved as needed.

The Recovery Task Team is focusing its efforts on the most severely impacted communities, particularly those where permanent residences were lost. Key priorities include debris management, access to temporary housing, and connecting affected residents with mental health supports. The team is working with community leadership to share information about available resources and determine where further support is required.

For individuals whose homes or property were damaged by wildfire, two main forms of assistance are available:

  • Residents are encouraged to contact their private insurance providers to determine what coverage and support are available.
  • Residents who are displaced from their homes for more than 30 days may be eligible for support through the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program (PDAP). Once a community is confirmed as eligible, displaced residents can contact their local municipality to obtain an application form. More information is available through the SPSA website.

The province says it will continue to work with affected communities as recovery progresses throughout the wildfire season.
