The Rocky View Schools 2025 Trustee Election is starting to take shape.
Four current trustees are running for re-election, including:
- Fiona Gilbert Ward 5
- Melyssa Bowen - Ward 3
- Shali Baziuk - Ward 1
- Norma Lang - Ward 2
RVS has eight trustees representing different wards. The current trustees that are not listed above include Judi Hunter, Shelley Kinley, Todd Brand and Fred Burley.
Ward three includes the Airdrie schools and has a total of three trustees, while all the other wards only have one trustee as of right now. In the upcoming election, Cochrane will have another trustee for a total of two.
According to the RVS website, a hopeful trustee must fulfill the following requirements:
- File Form 29 - Notice of Intent with RVS's Returning Officer before campaigning, fundraising or collecting donations by noon on September 22.
- Collect signatures from 20 electors (to be submitted as part of the nomination package).
- Pay a $100 deposit upon submitting nomination forms.
For candidates to be eligible, they must be able to vote in the election, have been a resident of the local jurisdiction for six consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day and not be ineligible or disqualified.
You are not eligible to be a candidate if:
- You are the auditor of the local jurisdiction for which the election is to be held.
- On nomination day, you are employed by a school district or division, a charter school or a private school unless you are on a leave of absence granted under Section 22 of the LAEA.
- You are indebted to the School Board or Municipality in which the election is being held for the amounts or timelines outlined in the LAEA (Section 22).
- You have been convicted of an offence under the LAEA, the Election Act, the Election Finances and Contribution Disclosure Act or the Canada Elections Act in the previous 10 years.
- Have a contract with the school division for the provision of goods and/or services as outlined in the Education Act (Section 87 (1)).
- Other criteria that may disqualify you as outlined in the Education Act or LAEA Section 21.
