In response to the strong growth in multi-unit housing developments, City Council has increased funding for the Municipal Fee Rebate program to meet increasing demand and continue incentivizing the development of new multi-unit housing projects across the city.
With funding nearly fully committed, Council has approved an increase from $1 million to $1.6 million to support all projects currently in progress and allow room for additional submissions before the program concludes at year-end.
Since launching in June 2024, the program has generated strong interest, from the development community, that amounts to 147 eligible projects submitted representing the potential for over 700 new housing units.
This initiative supports Council’s strategic focus on Innovative Efficiencies and Economic Readiness by helping expand local housing options, strengthening workforce attraction, and contributing to long-term economic growth. With a rental vacancy rate below 2 per cent, the program also plays a key role in easing housing pressures and improving affordability in Grande Prairie.
