With summer in full swing, there are ways to stay cool in High River.
The Town of High River has cooling stations set up to help people find relief during any extreme temperature the area may experience this summer.
When there are high temperatures, the Town is reminding people to stay hydrated and safe, and when possible, plan ahead to minimize the amount of time spent outdoors.
On top of drinking a lot of water, it's advised to not leave people or pets in a vehicle, and make sure they are hydrated.
The Town of High River's Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Resource Centre, Greater Foothills Family Centre, the High River Library, Museum of the Highwood, and the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex are all acting as cooling stations for people to get out of the sun and take a break from the heat.
On weekdays, the FCSS Resource Centre and the Greater Foothills Family Centre will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for people to come by and cool down.
For those trying to get out of the heat on evenings, the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The High River Library will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, and then on Thursday they will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
On Saturday, they will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Visitor Information Centre at the Museum of the Highwood will be open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and again from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
When the temperature gets high, it's advised to limit strenuous activities and avoid non-essential activities.
Avoid caffeine and alcohol, as they can make dehydration worse, but drink plenty of water instead and eat fresh fruits.
