Update: Fire crews declared the blaze under control at 12:45 p.m. after fighting the fire for over two-and-a-half hours in the 1000 block of Main Street.

Neighbouring homes were evacuated as a precaution while crews worked on the scene. 

Two cats were rescued from the side-by-side house. The City of Winnipeg Animal Services Agency responded to help the cats. 

The cause is still unknown, but the home is expected to be a total loss.

The fire broke out at a residence at Pritchard Avenue and Main Street.

Due to the incident, northbound Main at Pritchard is reduced to one lane.

There is no word on what caused the blaze or if there are any injuries.
