At approximately 7:45 p.m. yesterday, a temporary wall collapsed onto the deck of the active pool at Genesis Place.

According to the City of Airdrie, staff worked quickly to evacuate the pool and ensure the safety of all participants. No injuries have been reported.

"The pool and aquatics area were temporarily closed to allow for a review and safety assessment."

The pool and aquatics area reopened at 1 p.m. today.

"The temporary wall had been installed as part of scheduled biennial maintenance work in the adjacent drained lane pool and dive tank. Enhanced safety measures have been implemented for the replacement of the temporary wall."

According to the City of Airdrie, they place the highest priority on the safety of staff and facility patrons.

"A detailed investigation is underway in collaboration with the site contractor and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety."
