A Chestermere peace officer stopped a vehicle doing 75 km/h over the speed limit.

According to the City of Chestermere, the speeder was caught in the late hours of Thursday (July 3) doing 125 km/h on West Merganser Drive, which has a speed limit of 50 km/h.

Officers say the driver was a youth transporting three other young passengers.

"This type of driving behaviour demonstrates a blatant disregard for traffic laws and public safety," wrote Chestermere Municipal Enforcement. "As a result, the driver is facing multiple charges, including careless driving."

The driver was released with a summons to appear in court.
