The update, authored by Lynn Mackenzie, the City of Airdrie’s manager of RCMP Support Services, summarizes the outcomes of the February 27 public forum and outlines several upcoming safety initiatives coordinated within the local detachment.
The 2025 town hall was held in council chambers and drew 25 in-person attendees. Another 26 residents submitted questions and comments by email in advance of the meeting.
“Road Safety was the most frequently expressed concern,” the report states. “Out of all the questions asked prior to and during the event, 11 were pertaining to traffic or road safety concerns.”
Among the submissions:
-
“Is there a possibility of installing speed bumps in communities to slow traffic?”
-
“Can you outline what a typical day looks like for an officer? I sit at the parent council at Herons Crossing and during pickup there are a lot of traffic problems, but I never see officers there during pickup, why aren’t they there?”
-
“There are some intersections where I get to them and the light turns green but then turns red right away and it causes me to run red lights.”
-
“Has the RCMP or Municipal Enforcement considered utilizing the Sheriff Highway Patrol for special traffic enforcement projects to target areas of concern such as these recent concerns at school zones or for impaired driving check stops?”
-
“What are the rules around window tints on cars?”
The report includes a location-based summary of traffic complaints received at the event. These are:

The annual town hall is hosted by the City of Airdrie on behalf of the RCMP with the goal of engaging residents on issues relevant to community safety. “This event helps the Detachment Commander create the City of Airdrie Annual Policing Priorities,” the report states.
Also on the July 8 committee agenda are two administrative updates tied to community safety planning: a proposed redesign of the Airdrie RCMP lobby and front counter, and the launch of a new Community Safety and Well-Being Plan.
“With the continued growth in population, the number of residents visiting the RCMP detachment has steadily increased,” the report states. A public Request for Quote has been issued for a qualified vendor to redesign the front area, with construction planned for 2026 pending budget and RCMP approval.
Separately, the City is beginning work on a provincially mandated Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, intended to “emphasize a holistic and proactive approach to fostering healthier, safer, and more resilient communities.”
“Administration is aiming to have a vendor selected by the end of August 2025,” the report states. A Request for Quote is in development, and the Policing Committee will act as a key stakeholder in shaping the plan.
Tuesday’s report is listed for information only. No council decisions are expected.
The same report is also scheduled to come before the Policing Committee on Wednesday, July 9.
