The Town of Nanton is a top 40 finalist in the 2025 ParticipACTION Community Challenge.
The challenge is a national physical activity and sport initiative aimed at encouraging individuals and families to get active throughout the month of June.
“This recognition truly reflects Nanton’s community spirit and our ‘let’s just do this’ attitude,” said Mayor Jennifer Handley. “So many groups pitched in, and that’s what makes Nanton such a special place.”
With a $100,000 grand prize on the line for the Most Active Community to support physical activity and sport initiatives, local groups and organizations hosted a variety of events, activities, and programs in June.
In total, 19 organizations hosted 64 activities with 9,726 participants.
Organizations that worked to get residents active included the Tom Hornecker Recreation Centre, Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre, Nanton Golf Club, Thelma Fanning Memorial Library, Bomber Command Museum of Canada, Nanton Pickleball Club, and more.
The town finished 14th in Canada and second in the province, showcasing what the community can do when they come together.
The town is thankful to everyone who organized, led, and joined in activities throughout June.
“Being a finalist brings us one step closer to potentially being named Canada’s Most Active Community and unlocking funding to support future projects,” a Town of Nanton Facebook post said. “Let’s keep moving, Nanton.”
A representative from Nanton must now complete a finalist submission explaining why they should be named Canada’s Most Active Community.
The winners will be announced the week of July 22.
