Airdronian Jay Raymundo held his launch announcement Saturday to share that he has put his name forward to run for Airdrie City Council.
He officially filed to run for council last week. This is the second municipal election in a row that he has decided to run.
Raymundo explained he has a lot invested in Airdrie, and that's why he wants to run again.
"I have kids that live here, work here, play here and go to school here. I have a small business here as well. So it's definitely in my best interest to see Airdrie succeed."
He explained that his involvement in the community over the last four or five years has allowed him to see what Airdrie is truly like.
"It has opened my eyes to see what the community needs, what it's lacking, and the struggles that it's going through."
Raymundo also shared that he wants to be the voice for the newcomers and the culturally diverse community that the city has.
"I know A lot of them are afraid to speak up, or are just not aware of the happenings and the possibilities that they have here in Airdrie."
He hopes that if he is elected, he will be able to host more community town halls that pertain to everybody.
"The existing council has done an amazing job with the city, with what they have, but I think I would love to work on and work with the existing Council, the province, even builders, so we have a more sustainable plan, a systematic approach to building our infrastructure."
He concluded by saying he lost the last election by 90 votes, but is ready to try again and be a voice for the Airdronians that need it.
Raymundo was one of the race coordinators for the Father’s Day Run for Mental Health.
