Little New York Daze will be taking over the Village of Longview on July 19 and 20.
According to Saje Muraski, who has been doing markets at the event for over 20 years, people will be able to grab breakfast on-site before the parade begins.
"Saturday is parade day, and it starts out with a pancake breakfast at the community hall, which is on the parade route," Muraski explains. "And that starts at 8 o'clock in the morning. And then, the parade starts at 10 o'clock."
There will be a market at this year's event, but according to Muraski, the market will not be along the parade route, as everything will be happening at the park.
"We've kind of done a revision where it's just better with everything going on in the park rather than all over the village. So, we are starting the market at 11 o'clock on Saturday morning after the parade, and we will go until 4."
Not only that, but at noon on Saturday, there will be a horseshoe tournament, and from noon until 4 p.m., there will be old-fashioned games in the park, such as three-legged races and sack races, face painting, petting zoos, a barbecue, and a beer garden with live music from Mark Parsons.
"Mark Parsons, I just have to put this in there, he's absolutely amazing," Muraski says. "He's just a real entertainer."
At 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, they are having their famous Fire Hall Dinner, and at dusk, they will be setting off fireworks from the Longview hill.
On Sunday, there will be a Show and Shine in the park, kids' games with prizes, a mini market, a barbecue put on by the Junior Colts Football team, and their first annual Battle of the Bands.
"The Battle of the Bands is the biggest thing on Sunday."
While it costs $50 to enter the Battle of the Bands, Muraski says each band gets to do a 45-minute set, and there is a cash prize for first, second, and third places.
In previous years, parts of Little New York Daze were done on the street of the parade route and at the school, causing people attending to be spread out, but now, everything is happening at the park.
"It's going to be a busy time, and we really have a beautiful park with an awesome playground with exercise equipment and climbing walls and the whole bit. And the Village built that all through volunteer fundraising."
The parade route will be along the Cowboy Trail (Highway 22), which will be closed by 9 a.m. for the parade.
At this year's event, they are honouring the area's pioneers.
