Time might be flying for the kids this summer while they are having fun, but it is also flying for parents who may already be seeing the need for help with school supplies.

While the Weyburn Salvation Army is serving lunch to school children each weekday throughout summer from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at their Fourth Street location, they are already working on helping out with the next school year.

Community Ministries Worker Nicole Strickland said the application deadline for their Back to School program is July 30th.

"People can call the office and make an appointment, and we can help them out with school supplies," she invited.

Parents can book appointments with their office by calling 306-842-2280, and they can bring their child's or children's school supplies list with them to the appointment to determine what items are needed.

Each year, local business owner Bree Patterson partners with the Weyburn Salvation Army to ensure school kids in Weyburn have what they need for the whole school year.

"It's one thing I'm able to do, and I enjoy doing it. It kind of gives them a good start of the basics that they need, and then there will be some extras, but hopefully it's the majority of what they need for their kids to have a good start to the year," shared Patterson in 2024, after ensuring 42 students in Weyburn had their school supplies.
