Police are investigating a serious assault that left three people hospitalized after an incident on the Calgary Stampede Midway late Tuesday night.

Officers were called to reports of an assault near the Euroslide at about 11:05 p.m. on July 8, where they found a man in medical distress.

He was transported to hospital in life-threatening but stable condition, Calgary police said in a Wednesday morning release.

Shortly afterward, officers responded to two additional individuals in medical distress: a youth near 17th Avenue S.E. and Macleod Trail S.E., and a man near Erlton Street S.W. and 27th Avenue S.W.

“Investigators have since determined that both were also victims of the same assault that occurred on the Midway,” police said. “They were transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.”

The suspects remain at large. The incident is not believed to be random.

Investigators believe a number of witnesses were present during the altercation and that some may have recorded the incident on their cellphones.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has video footage from the area at the time is asked to contact police,” the release stated.

Tips can be submitted to police at 403-266-1234 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, www.calgarycrimestoppers.org, or the P3 Tips app.

“The investigation is in the early stages. Further information will be shared as it becomes available,” police said.
