As of 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) has reported 68 active wildfires across the province. The agency’s latest update categorizes seven fires as contained, 15 as not contained, 30 as undergoing assessment, and 16 as involving protection of critical values such as communities, infrastructure, or resources.
The agency continues to note that his year’s wildfire season is proving to be significantly more severe than usual. Saskatchewan has recorded 357 wildfires to date — far exceeding the province's five-year average of 208 for this time of year.
Four communities remain under evacuation orders due to wildfire threats: the Resort Subdivision of Lac La Plonge, La Plonge Reserve, the Northern Village of Beauval, and Kinoosao.
Evacuees are encouraged to register through the Sask Evac Web Application and call 1-855-559-5502 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to assess their needs and determine eligibility for additional support. Those experiencing difficulties with the registration process can also receive assistance by calling the same number. Evacuees currently supported by the Canadian Red Cross are advised to contact 1-800-863-6582.
In response to the ongoing crisis, the SPSA's Recovery Task Team is actively working with affected communities to support recovery efforts. Current priorities include debris removal, site cleanup, and helping communities begin the rebuilding process.
The Government of Saskatchewan announced on Monday a $20 million recovery fund to support these initiatives. The funding is designated for individuals and communities that suffered losses during the provincial emergency declaration (May 29 to June 26, 2025), or were under a local state of emergency during that period.
This new financial commitment comes in addition to $500 payments being distributed to evacuees aged 18 and older. According to the SPSA, more than 10,000 individuals are expected to receive the support, including those recently displaced.
A full list of currently evacuated communities, along with the latest wildfire updates, an interactive fire ban map, and prevention resources, is available on the SPSA website at saskpublicsafety.ca.
