A string of backyard thefts on June 30th were reported to the Weyburn Police Service, Deputy Chief Shane St. John believes the incidents are connected due to the timeline and location of the thefts.

“A few different residents had some items taken from the backyard, some sheds gone through, some vehicles as well. Looks like people had tried to gain entry, one alarm had gone off.”

Weyburn residents are asked to report similar incidents to the WPS, as it will aid in the investigation and potentially link the incidents. St. John explains it can also aid in tracing the thefts after a suspect is found.

“if it's the same area, the same night, just timelines, any information is always good. And I know some people don't always report things when they've had it happen. If they do report it, then if we do get suspects or we do find someone with property, we can trace it back to where it was stolen from.”

The applicable charge under the Criminal Code of Canada would be theft under $5000, based on the nature of items stolen instead of their cumulative value.

Anyone reporting a potentially related theft or any matter of a criminal nature can contact the Weyburn Police Service at (306) 848-3250.
