Through the Government of Saskatchewan’s Healthy Beaches program, E. Coli advisories have been issued for a pair of beaches on the west shore of Last Mountain Lake.
Alice Beach tested 476.8 E. Coli organisms per 100 ml of water on July 4. Recreational water is considered to be safe for swimming and other in-water activities with a sample no greater than 235 E. Coli organisms per 100 ml of water.
Etter’s Beach, on the north end of Last Mountain Lake, tested 236.8 E. Coli organisms per 100 ml of water on July 7. Although it was just over the threshold, an E. Coli advisory has been issued.
Because water at both these beaches has exceeded safety levels, resampling is now in progress.
Closer to Moose Jaw, Buffalo Pound Provincial Park Beach remains suitable for in-water activities. The last sampling was done on July 2 with 34.6 organisms per 100 ml of water.
Dallas Valley Ranch Camp near Lumsden, as well as Regina Beach and Kedleston Beach, are also at suitable levels for in-water activities.
