Westbound drivers on Abinojii Mikanah are facing major delays during the morning commute as lane closures for construction bring traffic to a crawl.
This morning, traffic was backed up from River Road all the way to St. Anne's Road, leaving many commuters stuck for extended periods. The congestion stems from a significant construction project that began July 2 and is set to continue until October 24, 2025.
Several listeners reached out to the Shine Dental Talk & Text Line to report the standstill and suggest avoiding the area altogether during peak hours. "I've never seen it this bad," one texter wrote. "It's a parking lot westbound every morning."
Currently, the westbound curb and middle lanes, along with the eastbound curb lane, are closed between Dakota Street and River Road. Only one lane remains open in each direction, resulting in long delays, especially during rush hour.
Motorists are being advised to plan alternate routes and allow for additional travel time. The City of Winnipeg says the work is necessary for street construction and maintenance, and is asking for the public's patience throughout the project.
