Another successful regular season has ended with the Portage Padres at the top of the Santa Clara Baseball League standings.
The Padres finished the season with an 11-3-1 record (Wins-Losses-Ties), and Manager Andrew Moar notes they didn't catch anyone off-guard with their performance this season.
"We're pretty happy with the way the season went. Last year we were a little bit of a surprise team, so we knew people would be gunning for us this year. We got up to our expectations, so that's always good to finish in first, clinch the pennant and go to provincials."
Moar suggests that despite winning the pennant, they're not in an ideal situation for the playoffs.
"We've got a two week break because of round one and "A" provincials. It's not really ideal for that long a break, it would be nice to have a little bit of a break. But we'll get a couple practices in here and stay fresh and be ready to go for round two. July 25, I think is when it starts."
Moar adds that they're planning to hand out their team awards and send in their league award nominations, but isn't sure when that will happen as of yet.
The Padres have won 5 of the 8 league championships and and six of the last nine pennants since 2016, and are aiming for their sixth championship once action resumes.
