Residents of Abrio Place are enjoying their new outdoor garden.
Melissa Bevan, the lodge manager for Abrio Place, explained that this was a goal for a while, so Abrio Place could feel even more like a home.
"We have a lot of wonderful gardeners, and we wanted to make it their own."
Kim Powell, the lead center coordinator for Abrio Place, explained that residents are outside on the nice days, taking care of their plots and enjoying the weather.
"Any resident who wanted a plot, we had a meeting and put their name down, and we distributed the plots. There are a few plots that are shared, and any resident who doesn't want to keep their own space can help with those."
She explained that all kinds of different flowers and vegetables are planted.
"They love going out there and watering and telling me how it's growing, and it just makes them happy."
The garden plots became possible as they received a grant from the provincial government.
"I have a picture of some of them just sitting there reading, and they, I don't even think they were talking. They were just enjoying their day."
Powell concluded by saying it's great to see them outside enjoying the garden and gazebo.
"It gives them a purpose for them as well, something to do every day, and actually tend to their garden and see something grow."
