Manitoba's Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating the shooting death of a dog in Swan Lake First Nation.
Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) notified the IIU of the incident that occurred around 730am the morning of June 11th. According to the notification, an MFNPS officer attended a residence on Swan Lake First Nation to make an arrest. No arrest was made, and upon leaving the residence, the officer was bitten by a dog. The officer returned to the residence a short time later and fatally shot the dog.
The civilian director of the IIU has determined it's in the public interest to investigate, and is looking for witnesses or individuals with information or video footage to contact it toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
The investigation is ongoing, so no further details are being provided at this time.
