Due to unstable conditions in the environment last night, there were a few intense thunderstorms reported throughout southern Manitoba.

"What we had yesterday was quite a hot and humid day over southern Manitoba," says Rose Carlsen, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada. "There were some pretty unstable conditions in the environment."

Friday afternoon, the temperature reached 31 degrees Celsius with a humidex of 39.

"Then we had a cold front sweeping through in the afternoon and evening, sparking off a bunch of thunderstorms as it moved through."

Thursday evening, Environment Canada sent out tornado warnings in the early evening.

"We didn't receive any reports of any touchdowns associated with that tornado warning. We did get a report of ping pong-sized hail out of Nelon, Man. yesterday."

A few communities reported up to 20 mm of rain yesterday as the thunderstorms rolled through.

"We're looking at a 60 per cent chance of showers today with a chance for thunderstorms, but nothing severe. Just like your garden variety thunderstorm may occur."
