Unity is hosting provincial softball this weekend, the first of three provincial ball tournaments taking place in the West Central community this summer.
Eleven teams are in attendance for the U15 'B' North bracket, including three from the region, Kindersley and Macklin joining the host Unity Panthers.
Beginning pool play early Friday morning, the first game of the tournament at 8:00 AM has Kindersley in action against Maidstone on Lions Diamond, and then at 8:30 Macklin takes on Battleford, the final team of the local contingent Unity starting on the Lions diamond afterwards at 10:00 AM.

The tournament will get going again Saturday morning at 8:30. Macklin will be first on the diamond for local teams, playing Parkland at 9:00 AM on Kinsmen, and then at 10:30 on Lions it's a regional showdown between Kindersley and Unity.
After the morning each team will close out their four-game schedule with games up until 6:30, where the standings will finalize and the top four teams in each pool will advance to the championship round.

The playoff round will get underway early Sunday. At 8:00 AM each pool's first place finisher will play the fourth-place team, same with second and third place to decide the semi-finals. That round will be played at 12:30 PM with the winners advancing to the gold medal game at 3:00 on Lions, the losers playing the bronze medal match at the same time from Kinsmen.

This weekend can act as a test run for what will be a potentially even busier next two weekends. 15U AA Tier 3 baseball is coming to Unity July 18-20, and then the next weekend July 25-27 it's the 13U AA Tier 3 tournament hitting the community.
