Members of the Foothills Fire Department, with assistance from Diamond Valley, Longview, and Spruce Meadows fire crews, responded to a structure fire early Wednesday morning.

Crews received a report of a fire just after 2 a.m. in Foothills County.

“When crews arrived on the scene, the house was fully involved,” said Alex Marshall, acting Fire Chief for Foothills County.

When first responders arrived on the scene, the residents were out of the house and were able to rescue some of their pets. However, there are a couple of pets that are unaccounted for.

“The owners of the home were transported for precautionary reasons by Alberta Health Services and returned to the scene a little while longer,” Marshall said. “They did take on some smoke from trying to rescue the animals from the house.”

Crews remained on the scene until the afternoon.

“Crews did a great job stopping the fire from spreading to a nearby building. Unfortunately, the house was a total loss,” Marshall said. “It didn't burn much of the grass area or turn into a wildland event. It just stayed at the house.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
