The Rocky View Regional Handibus Society is looking to add two to three new board members.
Paul Siller, the society's executive director, talked about why they are trying to find new board members.
"We are looking for some new faces and some new points of view to help govern the organization."
It would be optimal if someone who understands how a not-for-profit operates were present, but anyone is welcome.
"We're not asking you to join the board and devote 12 hours a week to running the organization. We want someone to give two hours every month and maybe one full day once a year, just to help review the ideas and help us make plans for the future."
If you are interested, please email info@rockyviewbus.ca. The current seven board members meet monthly.
The society serves residents from Rocky View County, Chestermere, Crossfield, Acme, Cochrane and Beiseker.
This year, the society is celebrating its 45th year, and they will be holding an open house on August 8th so people are able to see how they run. It will be held at their location in Airdrie.
So far in 2025, the society has delivered around 7540 trips. They are on pace to deliver more trips than last year.
In 2024, the handibus provided over 13,500 rides to more than 16,000 people.
Back in July 2024, the Handibus Society received a grant from Infrastructure Canada to replace several buses while also adding to its fleet. The new buses are Roadmasters, equipped for wheelchair-accessible transportation and capable of carrying six to eight passengers.
