The Strathmore Fire Department is looking to hire more paid-on-call firefighters.
On Wednesday (July 9), the Town of Strathmore announced the opportunity through social media.
"They’re teachers, mechanics, parents, students, office workers, and everything in between," wrote the town. "They have day jobs and weekend plans, but in their spare time, they give back to their community."
The opportunity is open to a wide range of residents, with no firefighting experience required. According to the town, the department will cover the costs of training, gear, and ongoing support.
"Paid-on-call members are also compensated for every hour they spend responding to emergencies, attending training sessions, and participating in other approved activities," added the town.
Requirements to become a Strathmore firefighter include:
- Live and/or work within the Town of Strathmore;
- Be at least 18 years of age;
- Have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and transportation;
- Provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract;
- Provide a clean criminal record check;
- Ability to understand and communicate in English;
- Excellent physical condition;
- Be able to attend training sessions one evening per week; and
- Be able to attend weekend courses and other training, as required, to maintain skills.
To apply, residents need to fill out an application form and include a resume before filling out a medical report and listing references.
Once the application is complete, residents can drop it off at the Strathmore Municipal Building or the Strathmore Fire Hall.
