Saskatchewan currently has the lowest unemployment rate in Canada according to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada. Despite the US and Chinese tariffs, the provinces unemployment rate sits at 4.9 per cent, well below the national average of 6.9 per cent. In June the province added 20,500 jobs, looking at the year-over-year.

"Saskatchewan heads into the second half of 2025 with the strongest labour market in Canada," Deputy Premier and Immigration and Career Training Minister Jim Reiter said. "Our government is committed to maintaining this continued growth, ensuring that Saskatchewan people are prepared for the jobs provided by our strong economy." 

Saskatchewan saw historical highs in June 2025's employment numbers of workers aged 15 and over. Saskatchewan employment reached 636,800 with full-time employment at 533,800 workers. Off-reserve Indigenous employment hit 67,900 with full-time off-reserve Indigenous employment at 56,500 workers.

Full-time employment year over year increased 5.2 per cent or 26,300 jobs, and off-reserve Indigenous employment was up 10.2 per cent, or 6,300 jobs. Indigenous youth was up 21.8 per cent of year-over-year increases.

Women's employment rose 4.6 per cent with 13,200 jobs while employment for men rose 2.2 per cent with 7,300 jobs.

Saskatchewan's major cities, Saskatoon and Regina, also saw an impressive rise in employment, going up 3.8 per cent and 4.4 per cent respectively. Regina is also currently ranked fifth among 41 major cities in Canada with an unemployment rate of 4.9 per cent. Saskatoon currently sits in forth with a 4.6 per cent unemployment rate.

The industries that saw the biggest growth were healthcare and social assistance, up 12.7 per cent or 11,800 jobs. Construction with a 14.5 per cent increase, or 6,500 jobs and public administration, which rose 13.6 per cent or 5,000 jobs.

This economic growth is backed by the Government of Saskatchewan's recently released Building the Workforce for a Growing Economy: The Saskatchewan Labour Market Strategy, which is a roadmap to help build the workforce to support growing Saskatchewan's economy, as well as Securing the Next Decade of Growth: Saskatchewan's Investment Attraction Strategy, a plan to increase investments in the province with a goal of $16 billion in private capital investment annually.
