The City of Grande Prairie has received a $10,000 grant from Tree Canada’s Community Tree Grants program, made possible through CN’s EcoConnexions – From the Ground Up program - to support the creation of a new greenspace at the Community Knowledge Campus (CKC).

Planting begins July 14, featuring 14 large trees and six smaller trees in front of the CKC along west Knowledge Way.  The project transforms an open, high-traffic area into a greener, more welcoming space for students, facility users and the broader community. Species selected for the site include white spruce, lodgepole pine, scots pine and northwest poplars, chosen for their durability and seasonal appeal.

The project supports City Council’s strategic priorities by advancing long-term environmental stewardship through biodiversity and enhancing the livability of public spaces.

“This planting reflects our ongoing investment in quality of life and a healthy, inclusive and caring community,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “Thanks to Tree Canada and EcoConnexions – From the Ground Up’s generous support, we are proud to continue growing Grande Prairie’s urban canopy while supporting wellness, sustainability and community connection.”
