But the seasoned bats of the Blue found their groove and overtook their Saskatoon opposition, winning 6-4.
Thomas Lessmesiter got the win. A couple errors aided in the comeback, plus hits by Cole Bauml and Nick Anderson sealed the deal.
The Royal collected nine hits in all. Brent Puetz went 3 for 4 on the game. In additional to Anerson and Bauml, Colby Frerichs and Curtis Strueby provided hits to advance the cause.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Brody Frerichs and Brent Puetz teamed up for a 7-0 shutout. Frerichs struck out 10 batters in the outing. Nick Anderson led the way at the plate going 2 for 4 while Cole Bauml picked up two RBI's. A flawless game in the field contributed to the defensive outcome.
The River Pirates and the Royals will face each other once again for a Tuesday Night tussle in Saskatoon.
